Development

Your project needs an idea that holds up from first pitch to final cut. My development service focuses on the creative groundwork: shaping the concept, testing the story and writing a treatment that makes the whole team want to make it. I work closely with your agency team and director to turn a loose brief into a clear plan, and carry it all the way through to the final product.

Service

Concept

Turning a brief into a strong, simple idea, then pressure-testing its production feasibility against audience, budget and schedule before anyone picks up a camera.

Edit-minded

With 20+ years in the edit suite, I develop ideas knowing how they will cut together, so the story survives the shoot.

Collaborative

Treatments, references and boards shared early, so agency, client and director are aligned before production begins.

Start to Finish

One creative thread from first idea to final product: the concept is carried through shoot, edit, grade and delivery without losing what made it work.

Questions, answered

General

What does development involve?

Development turns a brief into a production-ready idea. Depending on the project, that can include concept generation, story structure, treatments, visual references, scripts, storyboards and shot lists.

Can you carry an idea through production?

Yes. I can carry the concept through shoot, edit, grade and delivery, or hand your team a clear, production-ready plan.

Process

How do you assess production feasibility?

I test each concept against the practical realities of making it: budget, schedule, locations, talent, crew, technical requirements and final deliverables. If something is likely to create unnecessary cost or risk, I’ll flag it early and find another way to preserve the strength of the idea.

What do you need from us to begin?

A brief, audience, objective, key messages, mandatories, indicative budget and timing are ideal. It’s fine if some of those are still taking shape—the development process can help clarify what the project needs before production begins.

What will we receive at the end of development?

Deliverables are shaped around the project and may include a creative treatment, narrative structure, visual references, script, storyboard, shot list or production approach. The goal is a clear, compelling idea with a practical path into production.

How long does the development process take?

A focused concept sprint may take a few days, while a larger treatment involving research, scripting, references and production planning may take several weeks. I’ll define the stages, review points and timing before work begins.

Working together

Can you work with our agency, director or production team?

Yes. I can lead development or work alongside your existing agency, director, producer and production partners. I keep the idea, edit and production approach connected, then hand over a clear plan the whole team can work from.
